There is a broad consensus that human activities are increasing greenhouse gas emissions that may profoundly disrupt the world's climate. After a slow start, the international community is now responding with rapidly evolving carbon-trading initiatives that allow low-emission firms to sell their carbon "credits" to other firms that, for whatever reason, are heavy emitters of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide.
